Review: The Case of the Missing Moonstone by Jordan Stratford

The Case of the Missing Moonstone
The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency Book 1

from the author's site:
Lady Ada Byron, age eleven, is a genius. Isolated, awkward and a bit rude—but a genius. Mary Godwin, age fourteen, is a romantic. Adventurous, astute, and kind, Mary is to become Ada’s first true friend. And together, the girls conspire to form the Wollstonecraft Detective Agency—a secret constabulary for the apprehension of clever criminals. Their first case involves a stolen heirloom, a false confession, and an array of fishy suspects. But it’s no match for the deductive powers and bold hearts of Ada and Mary.

my thoughts:
I loved this book right from the start. I always love a good mystery and this is a fun one. What really makes this story great, though, is the characters. Ada and Mary are fabulous! As soon as I finished reading The Case of the Missing Moonstone, I checked out every book I could find at my library on Ada Byron Lovelace.  I knew nothing about her prior to reading Stratford's book, and I'm curious to learn more. My hope is that young readers interested in this series will do the same. I especially like that the author includes notes at the end letting readers know what is historically accurate and what he changed to make a better story, and I encourage people to take the time to read the end notes.

I strongly recommend this great book, especially for readers who are looking for books with strong female characters who are interested in math and science.

how I acquired this book:
I checked it out from my local library.
